Teething pain is no fun for your baby, and seeing your baby uncomfortable and in pain is no fun for mom and dad, either. Thankfully, there are many tried and true remedies to help relieve your baby’s teething pain which will help them get through the tough process of teething much easier. Let’s take a closer look at 5 ways you can help relieve your baby’s teething pain fast.
Cold Rags or Teething Rings:
Cold does wonders for soothing irritated gums, which can quickly become sore and painful. You can either stick a damp rag or washcloth in the fridge for a bit until it’s chilly, or pop a teething ring in the freezer for a short period. Just make sure that neither the rag nor teether get to the point of being frozen, as this will be too cold for your baby’s gums. Once they’re chilly enough, hand them over and your baby will find their gums relieved soon.
Amber Teething Necklaces/Teething Bracelets:
You’ve probably seen amber teething necklaces and bracelets on babies before without realizing that they were more than just jewelry. Amber contains succinic acid, a natural pain reliever and anti-inflammatory agent. When your baby wears an amber necklace or bracelet against their skin, this succinic acid is absorbed into the body, resulting in soothed gums and a reduction in pain.
Pressure:
Pressure can help temporarily relieve your baby’s teething pain, and is best achieved through as sterile finger glove designed just for this purpose. Mom or dad simply needs to slip the gum massager glove onto their finger and gently apply pressure to the baby’s gums until they are soothed. This method may not have as long-lasting an effect as the others because you won’t be able to massage your baby’s gums for very long but it’s very useful in relieving pain until you have time to get another remedy together.
Teething Mittens:
Baby teething mittens are a great concept that combines the soothing aspect of pressure on the gums with a handy teething mitt that your child can wear, so they don’t have to wait for mom or dad to have enough time to use a massager finger glove. Many teething mitten models have multiple types of textures for maximum impact. Teething mittens are designed to be tough enough to withstand your baby’s teeth, so you won’t have to worry about them accidentally biting themselves during the process.
Popsicles:
A cold popsicle can be a great numbing agent for sore gums. You should ideally look for all-fruit popsicles without loads of added sugar--or make your own--but even a regular popsicle will do in a pinch. Just make sure you’re watching your baby while they eat it, as popsicles can be a choking hazard for babies who are left on their own.
